World Environment Day is commemorated every year on 5th June. World Environment Day celebration began in 1972 and has grown to become the one of the main vehicles through which the United Nations stimulates worldwide awareness and action to protect our environment. The aim of the event over the years is to raise awareness on emerging environmental issues from Marine pollution, overpopulation, global warming to sustainable consumption and wildlife crime. The day was also marked in Moi University spearheaded by the MU-UNESCO Club and joined by other clubs’ keen in Environmental Conservation.

All members gathered at the university students’ centre at 10.00 a.m. and all proceeded to the planting grounds. The theme of this activity was “Making Moi Greener” in a move to;

a) Protect the environment by protection of water catchment areas,

b) Say NO to plastic,

c) Share more on biological diversity,

d) Emphasize on the achievement of the sustainable development goals. (SDGs) and

e) Emphasize on “Use, Reuse, Recycle and Reduce Pollution”

The students from Ivey School arrived as scheduled on 30th April 2019 and were received by the Director IPLA. During their three week stay they conducted a Business Decision Making workshop for the students from the School of Business & Economics. The two Institutions have been actively participating in Student and Staff exchange since the inception of the MoU which has seen the Student Instructors from Richard Ivey visiting every year to facilitate the workshop.

During their visit to Moi University, the five students on 3rd April had a tour to the Main Campus accompanied by two lecturers Dr. Naomi Koske and Mr. Joel Tuwey. They were received at the International office by the Assistant Registrar IPLA, Dr. Monica Kurui. They were briefed on the role of International Office of providing support to international students in Moi University.

The students afterwards visited the Dean of Students office and were received by the administrators in the office and briefed on the various functions of the Dean of Students in providing support and student welfare for all students at the University.

Finally they went to the Dean’s office school of Business and Economics and later to the Margaret Thatcher Library. The students after successful completion of their Workshop they departed for their country on 25th May, 2019.

Prof. Isaac S. Kosgey, Vice-Chancellor, visited Alexandria University on Monday 10th June 2019. The main focus of the visit was to assess the partnership and explore other areas possible areas of collaboration including a proposed medical centre jointly specialized on ophthalmology. The Vice-Chancellor had the opportunity to meet the Moi University Students undertaking their postgraduate studies at the Alexandria University. The Vice-Chancellor was accompanied by Prof. Isaac Kimengi, Prof. Paul Ayuo, Prof. Simeon Mining, Prof. Mohammed Elbadawi and Dr. Charles Lagat.
