Moi University held a two day workshop under the theme “Applied Teaching, Learning and Research” was held on On 18th March 2019, at CERME-ESA Boardroom, Main Campus. The Goal of Workshop was to enhance faculty awareness on approaches for practical training, applied research and foster knowledge and technology exchange between the University and the industry using an applied approach to teaching and research. The target participants were staff from the School of Engineering and the School of Business & Economics. The workshops were  facilitated by the staff who participated in workshops in German Universities of Applied Sciences in Kenya” supported by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD). The German Universities included the University of Applied Sciences Neu-Ulm (HNU), the Technische Hochschule Ingolstadt (THI) and TH Köln University of Applied Science. The Workshop was officially opened by Prof. Simon Mining, Director, and Research.

 The second day of the workshop targeted Industry representatives to  discuss ways of “Strengthening Industry - University Linkages”. It  was held on 19th March, 2019 at Sirikwa  Hotel and the representatives were from Kerio Valley Development Authority (KVDA), Kenya Association of Manufactures (KAM), Kenya Bureau of Statistics,(KBS), Export Promotion Council, Mace Foods Limited, Eldoret Grains among others.

 

The Directorate of IPLA coordinated the visit by a delegation of academics from Brandenburg and Eberswalde. The delegation included: Prof. Dr. Dietmar Wikarski - Project Leader ProUniEdu-WeK (DAAD), Prof. Dr. Reiner Malessa - Technische Hochschule Brandenburg, Luise Arndt  - Optometric Studies department Technische Hochschule Brandenburg and Prof. Sena Awarthi - from the HNEE (University of Applied Sciences Eberswalde). The delegation paid a courtesy call to the Ag. Vice- Chancellor, Prof Isac Kimengi and proceeded to the Cermesa boardroom for discussions.
The Moi University team was led by Prof. Eng. Simiyu Sitati, Dean School of Engineering, Prof. Eng. P.M Wambua, Dr, Severinus Kifalu, Dr. Joel  Kosgei,School of Biological & Physical Sciences, Dr. Andrew Macharia, Dr. Ernest K. Saina,  and Dr. Charles Lagat.
After successful, collaboration with Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology the German delegation desired to expand their partnership to other Universities especially in the western Kenya region. During their presentations and discussions the teams were able to establish common areas of interest. The teams are keen to establish collaboration with a view to make learning practice oriented. The Moi University team will meet and discuss areas of interest, identify common projects and work towards having a MoU.

Students from Hogeschool Utrecht University Netherlands visited Moi University from 24th February to 8th March, 2019, for a students’ exchange program. The visit is based on a MoU signed between the two Universities and coordinated by the School of Education. The collaboration has been active for the last five years and has witnessed MU & HU students participating in teaching practice in Moi University neighboring secondary schools. The visiting students from Hogeschool paid a courtesy call to the Vice- Chancellors office and were received by acting Vice- Chancellor. Prof. Isaac Kimengi who hailed the collaboration between the two Universities. He also congratulated the participating students. 
The program involved developing innovative learning tools in the Kenyan classroom in which students pair up to develop ideas of subject delivery and then teach in secondary schools. In this year’s program 10 students from each University were paired to participate. The groups taught at Wareng Secondary, Hill School and Moi Girls Eldoret.
Before participating in teaching the students from Moi University and those from Hogeschool Utrecht held a workshop where a brief overview of the program and introductions was done. The workshop also involved discussions on Understanding Kenyan and Netherlands Education Systems/ Culture. The workshop was officially opened by the Dean, School of Education, Prof. Chang’ach and attended by the Heads of department in the School of Education and the Director, International Programs Linkages and Alumni, Dr. Charles Lagat. The Hogeschool coordinator - Sally Ribnick and the Moi University coordinator - Dr. Njeri Kiaritha were also present.
